You can be absolutely sure they weren't talking about this dime. Take a good look at this beauty and then take another look. It's worth it. I'm not a coin collector, but this story caught my eye in the newspaper yesterday. This little dime sold for 1.6 million dollars. Yes, this one thin dime. And actually after the buyer's fee is added, it ends up costing 1.84 million. It was minted in Carson City, Nevada during a one day run of dimes in 1873 and was part of a collection of every coin made in Carson City before that mint closed in 1893. I've just got one word for that. Wow! And if you happen to come across a dime that looks like this, remember, it's definitely not worth a dime. It's worth a million of them.
It's interesting to think about what things are worth. Makes me think of that commercial about how some things are priceless. This dime wasn't. It brought a price - a big price. But so many other things in life are beyond price. Love. Family. Health. True friends. The wag of a dog's tail. Watching a grandchild (or two of them) blow out birthday candles. Being able to do the things you love to do. In life, the things that matter most aren't for sale. They are gifts that we can open with joy.

ReplyDeleteLoretta, I doubt I ever held a dime like this one, but I might have held other coins worth a little more than their face value, but if so, I didn't recognize it. But can you imagine paying over a million and a half dollars for a dime? That's a serious coin collector.
DeleteAnn, always enjoy reading your blogs also. The things I treasure most in life first and foremost are Jesus Christ, our Savior and a Father in Heaven who loves us unconditionally. Then there are too many other things almost to mention, but none of them include money really, like still having my health at my age, my children, my grandchildren, and being able to live in this beautiful country with all the freedoms we enjoy. My happiest moments have been just spending time with my family.

DeleteAnn, there are so many blessings and treasures in my life that it would be hard to name just one. I'm blessed to have a heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally. I have a wonderful husband, 4 beautiful daughters, sons-in-law and a grandson and granddaughter who are my life's joys. You can't put a price on love.

I often think about if I'd been born before back in the ancient age before someone came up with spectacles, I'd no longer be able to read now since I must depend on my glasses these days to make the print visible. ReplyDeleteA very good question, Dorita. Some things slide here at the house when I've got a deadline approaching and sometimes I bite off more than I can chew. I do spend a lot of hours with Mom, but my sister and a couple of sitters help that not to be every hour. And I can do internet work while at Mom's, if she's not agitated. I enjoy talking to my reading friends who take the time to comment on what I've written. But a clock with more hours would be very helpful at times.
DeleteI think the best gifts I have been given are best friend, my grandparets, husband and most importantly my children. They have brought me closer in my relationship with God and continue to do so (and my grandparents until their passing 9 days apart recently). They are true blessings!

DeleteYou asked what gift without price. The gift I'm treasuring right now that can't be bought is a MIRACLE. My sister was diagnosed less than a year ago with stage 3 breast cancer. It has since spread to the bones, liver, and then the brain. We were notified last week that there are NO cancer cells present in the brain anymore. Praise God!
