Mystery Photos in Spring

"Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand." (Neil Armstrong)

Do you like mysteries? I like reading them. Not sure I'd actually want to be involved with one although when I was a kid I imagined being like the Hardy Boys and solving all sort of mysteries. Now I'm happy when I can solve the mystery of my missing keys or what happened to that letter I just had in my hand and laid down somewhere a minute ago. Of course, that might not be such a mystery if my desk wasn't such a mess.

Fun Guesses

For some of you my mystery picture wasn't much of a mystery. For others of you, the picture had you doing some creative thinking. Love the yellow boots and sleds in the snow guesses, and you know, that snow does look like soapsuds or maybe ice in a cooler. A few of you saw a fence and bananas. Right color. Wrong object. The best wrong guess was Kristy's idea of a book in one of those yellow plastic bags that the telephone company uses when they pitch out the new telephone books by our mailboxes. I could see that. But, as you can see in the "rest of the picture" above, those of you who said a daffodil or jonquil, as we always called them when I was growing up, in the snow were right.

Mystery Picture 2
So are you ready to do some more guessing? You'll probably get this one right away too. Or at least some of you will. Remember, it's more fun to guess first and read the comments second. Then you can guess if you're right or not. A new guess gets you another entry in the drawing. Some of you didn't leave a way to contact you with your first guess, but you need to do that if you want to be in the drawing for one of my books and another grab bag book. I'm going to pick two winners on the 19th. Remember you can write your e-mail out with yourname(at)mailprovider(dot)com or net. And if you'd rather not do that, you can always send me a message at annhgabhart(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Spring is Springing

Here in Kentucky, spring is going to give us a little preview next week with temperatures in the sixties. Official spring is about 10 days away, but usually spring sneaks into Kentucky early. Not so much this year. However, Daylight Savings Time did show up earlier than it used to. That will make the days feel longer even though they're still the same twenty-four hours.

What gets you to thinking spring?

I noticed my windows needed washing today. But I'd rather be seeing flowers to get me thinking spring instead of dirty windows. what has you thinking spring?

"No winter last forever; no spring misses its turn." (Hal Borland)

  1. I have no idea on this mystery photo. I would say ice chunks of some sort. My 7-year-old daughter thinks it looks like chunks of insulation. thimbleluvr(at)hotmail(dot)com

    1. Interesting guesses, Amy. You'll have to wait until Wednesday night to find out if you're right or wrong. Neat that you let your daughter take a guess too. :)

  2. Daffodils in the snow...I see that now! My guess for the new picture is simply, popcorn! You always say guess first, read comments later but since I'm the early bird no comments to read yet. If this isn't popped popcorn I'll just scream! Always a challenge, always fun. Thanks, Ann, have a blessed week!

    1. Glad you're having fun with the mystery photos, Linda. I'll let you know if you need to scream on Wednesday night when I post the "rest of the picture." I'll have to come up with a new mystery for that post.

  3. my first thought was popcorn too but maybe it is cotton balls so that is my guess for the day. Hope spring is soon there for you in KY, I know my sister there is tired of all the bad weather, she is unhappy when she cannot drive to church on weekends, still driving at 82.

    1. Today we're having spring, Paula, but winter is forecast again for Wednesday. Even snow and zero windchills. 70 tomorrow and teen temps Wed night. KY weather for you. And I know a lot of 82 year olds driving and doing well. My Mom was still having a great time traveling all over when she was 82.

Thanks for taking a guess. Check back Wednesday night to see if you were right.

    1. Nice guess, Beth. You can come back Wed. night or Thursday to see if you're right. And I've thrown your name in my drawing hat for a chance to win the books. Not drawing until the 19th. More mystery pictures with more chances to enter before then.

    1. Sometimes it's good to be stumped, pt. And spring is coming in spite of a step back into winter a few times in March. That snow and daffodil picture is from a previous year. This year the daffodils haven't had a chance to bloom in between the snows.

  12. I keep wavering between popcorn & cotton balls. I must say it looks a lot like the Easter bunny my daughter made in Preschool many years ago.

    1. That's a fun memory then and a neat guess, Mary. It's definitely not the Easter bunny your daughter made in preschool many years ago, but who knows? Could be another Easter bunny. You can find out on Wednesday night. Thanks for guessing.

  14. Cotton balls!
Spring means flowers everywhere-on bushes, in gardens, on trees, and ground covers. It's everywhere here in CA.

    1. Hi, Sharon. I just sent you another e-mail. Well, actually I had your e-mail wrong and had been sending the messages out into the unknown cyberspace. You were Jocie's winner on her Heart of Hollyhill blog posts last week. Hope you get this latest e-mail.

Oh, and thanks for the guess here too. Can't say if you're right or wrong but you can find out Wednesday night. Thanks for joining in the fun and I've looking forward to flowers here in KY soon too!

  16. Looks like popcorn ready to pass over that red lip. If that's not it, then clearly I'm spending too much time figuring out calories and fat grams. :)

  17. Yay for spring! I can't wait to see the daffodils popping up.
I like to think that picture is cotton candy. I don't like the stuff, but I love to see it being made. :)

    1. I loved cotton candy when I was a kid. The way if would melt in my mouth. Pure sugar. I made it once when I was a teen in one of those concession trailers. It was sort of fun, but I had spun sugar everywhere, even in my hair. But that's not to say your guess is right or wrong. You'll have to come back next week to find out. And spring came here today, but it's disappearing again tomorrow as winter comes back to call.
