I
Meet my neighbor donkeys. Hannah and Joseph. Aren't they cute? Have you met any donkeys? These are shy little guys or maybe simply stand-offish. Or maybe they always simply know I don't have treats with me. :)

As some of you know, I just got back from a writers retreat where my agents had arranged speakers to encourage and inspire us to be better writers and people.
The first speaker was Gari Meachum who gave an inspiring testimony talk where she said a preacher had once given her the spiritual advice to be a donkey. It took her a while to wrap her mind around that idea but when she began thinking about Bible donkeys, things came clearer.
Mary rode a donkey to Bethlehem. A donkey may have been in the stable when Jesus was born. A donkey carried Jesus into Jerusalem before the Last Supper.
What a useful little animal. A beast of burden. A farm animal that earns his hay. A worker. So perhaps it would be good for us to consider the donkey and be glad when we can earn our hay and be blessed with the ability and desire to do the work The Lord has given us to do.
As always, thanks for reading.
The donkeys are simply adorable! Would love to pet them.
ReplyDeleteThey are cute, Gladys, but so far they've never let me pet them. I think their owner gives them treats and pets them often.
DeleteI love donkeys, especially miniature donkeys. We have a little farm down the road with several of them! Enjoyed your picture and discussion on this beast of burden.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed reading about considering the donkey, Karen. These are the miniature type and very cute.
DeleteDonkeys are sweet looking. Heard or read that it is believed donkeys got the unique stripe in the shape of a cross on their backs after Jesus rode the little donkey into Jerusalem. One of those "hmmm's! Linda
ReplyDeleteI've never heard that story, Linda, but it's a good one. Thanks for sharing,
DeleteSo happy people have 'discovered' the donkey. I have been a proud supporter of the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue for 20 years. Their dedication and their hearts for these wonderful animals is above anything you've ever seen. Please see their websites and also Mark S Meyers' books "Talking With the Donkeys". donkeyrescue.org Read all about his highly trained dogs, the "Burro Collies" and see them all on National Geographic; the Animal Planet, etc. God bless anyone who loves the donkeys and supports their welfare. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSounds great, Gail. Those "Burro Collies" are something I need to see. I'll have to go check out the website you list, so I can know more about donkeys. Glad you enjoyed reading my post.
DeleteThat talk flipped my brain upside down!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Ann, thank you.
